FAQs

Most frequent questions and answers about us:

1. What is Urban Edge Martial Arts all about?

Urban Edge Martial Arts in North York focuses on practical, effective, and realistic self-defense training, mastering self-defense against one or multiple attackers armed with knives, sticks, and other weapons. Our goal is to prepare students physically and mentally to handle real-world safety challenges with confidence and skill.

2. What martial arts style do you teach?

Our core style at Urban Edge Martial Arts combines Kempo’s blend of powerful Okinawan Karate strikes and fluid Kung Fu movements with Filipino Pekiti Tirsia Kali (PTK), a combat-focused martial art specializing in bladed weapons and close-quarters self-defense. Kempo draws from Shaolin boxing, Jujitsu, Karate, and Chin Na joint locks, inspired by five animal movements for striking, kicking, and grappling. PTK, founded in 1897 by the Tortal family in the Philippines, emphasizes speed, triangular footwork, and continuous motion for lethal efficiency in real-world combat, making it widely used by military and law enforcement worldwide. Together, these arts offer a practical, effective system for armed and unarmed combat rooted in deep tradition.

3. Do you teach other martial arts styles?

Yes! We complement our Kempo and Pekiti Tirsia Kali with cross-training in Muay Thai, Kyokushin Karate, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ), and boxing to provide a comprehensive, versatile self-defense skill set.

Because of this, we emphasize respect, discipline, and focus as core principles for all our athletes.
